50 Years of 911 in London, Ontario

In 1974, London was the first city in Ontario to get a dedicated 3-digit emergency number service in Ontario.

It took three years of planning by civic officials, Bell Canada and police, fire and ambulance services to develop and establish the 911 emergency response system.

This original copy of the 911 Public Service film was filmed in the summer of 1974 and published in October 1974 to commensurate with the roll-out of London’s 911 emergency call centre in November 1974.  It was shown on the old CFPL TV station as both a news item and a public service announcement.
